Merchant Square, home to some of Glasgow’s finest bars and restaurants, has been purchased by the Glasgow City Council backed Clydebuilt in a deal totalling £9.5 million pounds.

The £9.5 million pounds deal which incorporates the ownership of Merchant Square plus four properties in the nearby Candleriggs.

Previously the newly purchased premises belonged to Merchant City Properties.

The Merchant Square portfolio now includes restaurants like Kublai Khans, entertainment and restaurant venues such as Wild Cabaret or bars such as Metropolitan and several others inside the Square.

With a history dating back as far as 1800, Merchant Square in recent years has become one of Glasgow’s prime culturally significant, eating, drinking and entertainment centres.

Clydebuilt have promised to reenergise premises that have lay undeveloped and to ensure that Merchant Square remains one of Scotland’s leading bar and restaurant destinations.
