Gastronomic Extravaganza at Fairmont St Andrews Raises £22k+ for the Beatson Charity
An evening of traditional Scottish Gastronomy, entertainment from Red Hot Chilli Pipers and charity prize draws, took place in the newly renovated, five star Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews. Hosted by former BBC Scotland newsreader and restaurant reviewer, Viv Lumsden, the celebration was a massive success and set a new standard for charity events, raising £20,000 for the remarkable Beatson Cancer Charity.
The transformed, beautifully lit atrium was bursting with the nation’s ‘VIP’s’ including government ministers, senior business leaders and an abundance of current and former sports figures including, Alain Baxter, Bobby Petta, Alan Rough and Andy Walker. The five-course meal did not disappoint, with signature dishes made with the finest local produce and designed by master chef Gary Maclean in collaboration with renowned chefs Anthony Demetre, Steve Wilson and Gerard Chouet. A personal highlight for the GlasgowLiving team was pan seared loin Of Roe Deer, presented perfectly with raw spiced and caramelised cauliflower, oats and brambles.
However, the delicious cuisine and outstanding entertainment were made even more enjoyable by the stunning interior architecture of the hotel’s atrium. The redesigned space has been imagined and created by one of the world’s leading hospitality interior design practices, RPW Design. The dramatic design is influenced by Scotland’s rich history and stunning landscapes with careful consideration put into the colours, textures and intricate details, creating an intimate and inviting space. One of the most impressive features is undoubtedly the 60m organic ceiling sculpture designed by award-winning artist George Singer- the sweeping form imitating the movement of the water in the North Sea and the shoals of fish in St Andrews Bay.
Currently undergoing a multimillion pound renovation, the Fairmont has an impeccable reputation and has gained countless awards including the title of Best Hotel Resort at the Scottish Hospitality Awards in 2016. The event was extremely well received, with John Keating, general manager of the Fairmont Hotel, describing it as a “remarkable milestone” and Graham Soutar, Chief Executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, as a “big success”.
