The Kelvingrove Bandstand is undoubtedly one of the finest venues in Glasgow’s west end. A unique arena with plenty of character offering Glaswegians a variety of entertainment across the summer.

Since its restoration in 2014, the iconic Bandstand is the only original bandstand left in Glasgow and we take a look at what entertainment is on offer this year.

Starting in June and offering a slightly different aspect of the traditional music scene, we are blessed with the Bandstand Cinema Club, taking place from Monday 5th June to Friday 8th June, the outdoor cinema will showcase a variety of iconic films such as Trainspotting (well you couldn’t not show it could you?) and Pulp Fiction among others.

The outdoor cinema experience will almost certainly go down a treat with us Weegies in the hope that the weather forecast goes in our favour but I’m sure a little rain won’t dampen the spirits! The usual array of street food, beer, wine and cocktail bars will be on offer at the venue for the Glasgow punters to enjoy a chilled evening a few months before the summer music session commences. What can be better than watching a film in the sun, beer in hand? A full list of films with times and info can be found HERE.

As we start to look at the musical proceedings at the Bandstand this year we begin with the ‘West End Fiesta’. After the success of the three-day event in 2016 with acts such as Billy Ocean and Sister Sledge, the Fiesta returns this year with another impressive line up for us Weegie music fanatics. So who can we expect to see?

Kicking things off on the 4th June at the West End Fiesta is queen of funk Chaka Khan. A woman with barrel loads of character and someone that fits perfectly into the renowned outdoor atmosphere created at the Kelvingrove Bandstand. Opening the festival alongside her 14 strong band, the multi-award winning artist will no doubt have the Glasgow crowd singing along to all her classic hits. Unfortunately tickets for this have sold out almost immediately but rumours have it another date might be added! You ‘Khan’ keep up to date with all things Chaka on the West End Festival opening party facebook page!

As hard an act to follow as Chaka Khan is, less than week later on Friday 9th June the infamous Kool & The Gang join us at the bandstand with their jazzed up, funky rhythms. As a band with enough members to count on three hands, they are sure to provide an excellent show! Adding to the disco feel on Friday night is DJ Nicky Siano who will be providing an eclectic mix of sunshine vibes to get the crowd going – not like us Glaswegians really need any more encouragement, mind you!

For Saturday & Sunday at the festival we are joined by live music royalty!!! From Glasgow all the way to Goa, guitarist/songwriter/producer extraordinaire Nile Rodgers is known for his collaborations with artists such as David Bowie & Daft Punk who of course need no introduction. Bringing his blues and disco vibes to our city will almost certainly create an occasion not to be missed! The main man will not only be performing on the Saturday night but wanted to return on the Sunday because he loves our city that much. We’ll be there!

Finally, returning fo its fourth year and after a successful 2016, the ‘Summer Nights’ festival takes place between 31st July and 13th August. Hosting an array of talent including Glasgow’s finest, Texas’ who will open the proceedings. The band have recently added a third date to the bill as demand for this years show has been through the roof! Other bands such as the ‘Pixies’ will provide intimate concerts for the Glaswegian faithful throughout August. A full list of the line up and where to buy tickets for the event can also be found HERE but you better be quick with a few bands already selling out their performances!

A little bit of something for everyone at this summer’s Kelvingrove Bandstand which will no doubt prove to out shine last years events. Be quick to get your tickets mind you, we do not want them all snapped up and you decide a week before the event that you now want to go!! That will just make us here at Glasgow Living say say ‘I told you so’ and we don’t want that do we?
