Sound Of The Glasgow Underground! Our City's Street Buskers Take Over The Subway
Buskers, the stars of the streets are a key element to the soundtrack of Glasgow.
Dotted all over the city, they turn Glasgow into one massive open air festival, where the street corners are stages and despite the fee being cheap, we ought to pay more to these mighty performers.
They sing and play their hearts out every day for every occasion entertaining tourists on a summers day, getting a sing along with steamers on a Saturday night, or helping those trudging through the rain to work on a Sunday morning, with a gentler tune or two.
At some point they will have captured our attention with their talent, singing one of our favourite songs, impressing with one of their own tunes, or just making a lot of noise whilst playing metal bins ( yes, that has happened.)
And we can’t mention buskers without mentioning the Bez of the buskers Leo also known as the ‘Silent Raver’ a true support act for any performer with his brilliant dance moves along to absolutely anything.
This summer the city has witnessed some incredible artists perform. From legends like Nile Rodgers and The Pixies at the Kelvingrove bandstand; and a hugely successful and brilliant TRNSMT festival at Glasgow Green. Summer 2017 has been a truly spectacular time for live music in Glasgow.
Now SPT are looking to celebrate this amazing summer of music in the city, by giving Glasgow’s buskers a chance to rock the city’s underground stations for one full weekend, giving budding musicians a chance to put on a show.
On Tuesday this week, they announced they are on the hunt for talented acts, turning their stations into exciting live gigs and celebrating the best of Glasgow’s buskers.
Successful applicants will get the opportunity to perform in the Subway stations over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of August and we can’t wait.
This follows last months incredible gig by Twin Atlantic at St Enoch subway station, where a huge crowd gathered to see the Glasgow band play a special acoustic set next to the ticket office of the city centre underground hub.
Those scenes are now set to be repeated as commuters will be able to enjoy a variety of great acts specially chosen to get the underground rocking. SPT announced the hunt for budding musicians with the following post on their website:
“Do you fancy yourself as the next Chris Martin, Adele, Ed Sheeran or even Stormzy…then we want to hear from you!
“We’re looking for acoustic acts to play in and around the Subway on 4th and 5th of August as we continue our Summer Of Music.”
“So whether you’re a guitarist, violinist, singer or band this could be your chance to showcase your talent to our captive Subway audience.”
