We have done the hard work so you don’t have to – a day by day guide of all the freshers events we could find. Peruse the list, fill your snazzy new planner with

FYI: We have focussed on the events open to everyone, not just those with a relevant freshers pass. For links to individual uni freshers timetables, click on your uni below:
Not exactly a freshers event, but a very important day for West-enders – Glasgow Uni Freshers, this is now you. Prepare to suffer wendy jokes, give away all your student loan on a trendy but freezing tenement flat and perhaps never actually make it into town for the next four years. Little Italy are reopening today after their refurb and they are the spot to hit up for pre-lecture coffee and post-lib sesh pizza.
GUEST might be associated with UofG, but they aren’t actually a society so anyone can pop along and show their support. We love the sound of the One Stop Charity shop – perfect way to get into the thrifty way of life in Glasgow which means cool threads and more money to spend on the things you enjoy.
Glasgow Living tips: Expect Tuesday to become one of the most exciting nights of the week. Most party-loving freshers will find themselves in Kushion, Subbie and Buff Club at least once on a Tuesday, for Juicy Tuesdays, iAM and Killer Kitsch respectively.
iAM host the Subbie Tuesday night that always attracts the students in with drink promos and music that you didn’t realise was cool yet. This place is a cult classic that still plays host to the top DJs, the most discerning of the Glasgow electronic music fans and the biggest speakers in town, more than 25 years on.
Every new student in Ggow needs to spend at least one night in the tartan-carpeted Buff Club, and Tuesday night’s Killer Kitsch is an excellent place to start. Two floors of music and nothing but the tunes await you under the twinkling fairy lights of Bath Lane. It never disappoints.
If you like your nights out glammed up, busy and full of tunes that you have a 75% chance of remembering the lyrics to after a few shots, then Juicy Tuesdays at Kushion are ready for you. Chances are you’ll run into their huge group of PRs and their wee yellow beetle with a boombox at some point during freshers, and if we haven’t convinced you yet, we’re sure they will.
Sugarcube serve up VIP booth and bottle service complete with sparklers if you’re feeling flush, and drink promos in several sumptuous rooms, each catering to different musical genres, if you’re feeling fancier than your bank balance suggests. Their freshers starts on Tuesday, so if you think this’ll be your new haunt, then check it out.
No matter where your student digs are, the trip to the West End’s wee cobbled lane for cocktails (or maybe a night at the small but perfectly formed cinema) is always well worth it. The fayre is a great chance to acquaint yourself with the lane’s locals, as well as meeting the businesses that are looking forward to partying with you.
The kindly gang over at Brewdog are offering to introduce you all to their delish craft beers, and we recommend you take the opportunity in order to avoid a few years of drinking blandly. Had I tried their Punk IPA in my own freshers week, I would never have looked back. It took a while, but I got there eventually.
Nothing better than a self-explanatory club night. Get yourself to Bamboo on a Wednesday, and see what all the hype is about – they are a crowd-pleasing club with different rooms and musical genres to suit all. Prepare yourself, though. They’ve only gone and got a 4am licence! Reckon you’ll make it to the wee hours?
GCU’s tour of Glasgow’s many and varied LGBT+ watering holes is open to all, and will start at 6pm. Perfect way to meet people in the know about the local nightlife if you’re a Glasgow newbie.
Ahh Flat 0/1 – the glorious, nonstop house-party on Bath Street. Expect sofas, MD 20/20 and all the comforts of home. A pal once told me it must be closing as it was up for sale, and I was fair-buckelt (read – peeing myself laughing). You’ll get it when you go. They have a full line-up for freshers here – we just put em in Wednesday because there are so many events and so little time – and All U Need have helpfully taken it upon themselves to supply wee titbits of wisdom about the history of Glasgow in their event page which may be of interest to newbies. Enjoy with a pinch of salt.
Glasgow Living Tips: Wednesdays are the big night for sports and Erasmus socials, so if you join any sport clubs or Erasmus groups then you can expect to be busy on a Wednesday night!
Cathouse is the biggest rock club in town, so if you feel more at home bouncing about to punk, metal and rock then check out their early-noughties themed freshers party. If you thought you left the stripy gloves, heavy liner and skinnies unnecessarily held up with a studded belt in 2003, then think again. It’s all perfect for this night!
This event is run by the folks behind the massive Freshers Fest later in the month. It invites those with an interest in engineering on a tour of the clockwork orange – perhaps it will be an introduction to your future workplace?
Light in Royal Exchange Square host Erasmus parties for students studying in Glasgow from all over the world. If you’re hoping to meet some international students as part of your uni experience – then get yourself along to one of their many big ole parties!
*Tequila and beer party! Arriba! Just downstairs from cool Bath Street watering hole St Judes, is Lola’s – the stop for midweek party fun. Deals on tequila during freshers week are a no-brainer. We can’t wait to see how this one pans out… it’s going to be interesting, that’s for sure. Follow the link to check out their other club nights. See you on the dancefloor!
Get down and support your new team and enjoy a break from the freshers madness. Free busses will run from the campuses, too.
O2 Abc provide the tunes and the jelly shots, and you provide the rest. Look out for the giant disco ball and prepare to queue up the steepest street ever (it’s worth it though, just watch your step, you wouldn’t be the first fresher to take a tumble in excitement).
Classic hip hop, R&B and what more do you need, really? I’ve never actually managed to leave hip hop Thursdays before 3am for fear of missing a belter – all the tunes are top notch. Shout out to Shaka Loves You on the bongos downstairs, too. Even if you did politely refuse to give this classic tune a go last time I requested it. Sober me might understand, but drunk me will not.
Thursday nights at the Berkeley Suite just celebrated their 4th birthday, and residents Mungo’s Hi-Fi might get invited all over the place to play their reggae magic, but there’s nothing quite like enjoying it all at this wonderful venue with its fish tank and inexplicable ability to make Red Stripe taste 1000x better than it does anywhere else.
There are still a few tickets left for the messiest night of freshers, and with MOS providing the music and super-cool warehouse SWG3 as the venue, you’d better be quick to snap this up.
The Polo Lounge is described as the biggest and most fabulous gay venue in Scotland, and there’s no way anyone could disagree. This beautiful venue opens seven nights a week for all the fun and debauchery you could dream of – we picked hashtag Fridays to help get the ball rolling on their #FreshGayIsComing campaign, but check out the link in the title for the full breakdown of this full-time party house.
A free house party hosted by Angles and friends with confetti cannons. What more do you need to know?
Friday nights at O2 ABC are a dream for the indie kids who still remember all the lyrics to Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (that was a test – if you passed then you will love this). Love Music is the Sunday night event. Yep, you heard right, you will be able, nay, encouraged, to go out on a Sunday, guys. Berocca-up.
King Tut’s is a gem in the crown of the Glasgow music scene, and even after several visits, you still spot big names you hadn’t noticed before painted on the stairway of fame up to this tiny den of live music. Get your live musical education off to a fine start with Invernessian (can we make that a thing? Glaswegian, Aberdonian, Invernessian? I’m sick of being referred to as a tcheuchter) rockers Schnarff Schnarff, who are launching their album here and playing the whole thing live, you lucky beggars.
Ever found yourself daydreaming about attending Hogwarts? Yeah, you and most of the muggle world. Now, a dream can (almost) become a reality. Also – 4am licence whuuuut. You knew those wizard robes you bought for Halloween several years ago would come in handy. Garage, the big club under the big yellow truck on Sauchiehall Street has a packed Freshers schedule – check out the rest here.
Get a team together and hunt the surrounding streets for clues in order to win £150 cash and a £100 bar tab! This unique event is for limited numbers, so if you’re feeling lucky then come up with a bangin team name and get the Sherlock Holmes hats on. (1900 – 2300hrs).
Phew! And that’s only Tuesday – Friday. Make sure you sign up for email updates to enter our free pizza comp, and to stay up to date with all the Glasgow-goings on. Welcome to Glasgow!
