7 of the Best Places in Glasgow to Have Yer Cake and Eat it
With it being National Cake Day this Saturday, 26th November, this gives us the best excuse ever to eat cake. We have found some of the best bakeries in Glasgow to celebrate this momentous day…
Located on Gordon Street, just up from Central Station, this wee cafe is perfect for a stop-off in the city centre. Everything is made on site and they have an ever-changing menu of handmade cakes and delicious lunch options. Some of their sweet treats include; Billionaire’s Shortbread, Berry Frangipane, Toffee Apple Cake and Snickers Brownie… yum.
This small artisan bakery on Victoria Road is well known as a hidden gem that is worth the journey to the south side. Their bread and pastries are baked in the morning and once they run out, they close. The whole team are involved in both the baking and serving aspect of this cafe. Their menu is always changing, so get down for a delicious cake and a coffee.
My Home Bakery
This small but perfectly-formed bakery is located in the heart of the west end. As well as delicious cakes such as Pear & Ginger, Salted Caramel Tarts and Apple & Cinnamon Star Cakes, they also sell a range of savoury items and delicious baked bread. There are also gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available.
Okay so not exactly a cake, but we couldn’t leave these guys out! Tantrum Doughnuts in the West End make all doughnuts by hand and are made using seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. Some of the flavours include; Pistachio and Hibiscus Ring, Peanut Butter and Jelly and Maple Candied Bacon and Puffed Pork Crackling.
Once upon a time it was an old art gallery, now it is a fabulous cafe serving delicious cakes and sandwiches. You can find this very pink cafe in Merchant City and enjoy a slice of Raspberry Coconut Loaf (pictured), a Toffee Caramel Cupcake or a Bakewell Tart.
Founded in 2010, Cottonrake Bakery have been serving up fresh cakes ever since. Their aim is to “provide the blend of British home baking and French Patisserie we have become known for”. Get down there for some Macarons, Creme Brulee Tarts or a slice of Dressed Dark Chocolate Cake (pictured) …
Choose from cakes, tray bakes and slices, scones and muffins to name just a few. With everything hand made without artificial flavours, colours and chemical stabilisers, you won’t feel guilty. There are also gluten free and wheat free cakes. Try the wheat free Chocolate & Cherry Brownies!
