Glasgow’s New ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chez Mal Opens in Style
Chez Mal, the fabulous restaurant at the heart of Glasgow’s Malmaison Hotel, has a brand new Brasserie. Have you seen it yet?
On Wednesday, October 25th, friends and family were invited along for the preview of this newly revamped space in Glasgow’s coolest hotel. We were welcomed with an introduction to the bespoke menu for the evening by General Manager Graham Chalmers and Executive Chef John Woodward.
With the Champagne flowing, we headed through to the new space, which is open, bright and classy. The centre is dedicated to a serving space, where the chefs talk us through the dishes. The meat is cooked to perfection, and scallops cradle black pudding hearts.
Enormous wheels of the finest cheese lie waiting to be tasted, with baskets of bread and biscuits alongside. Chips might not usually be a thing of intense scrutiny, but these ones were thick cut and laced with rosemary and sea salt, making them just as impressive tasting as any of the more exotic counterparts on offer.
We also try the sashimi and wasabi mayo, as well as delicious roasted veg on the side. It might be a buffet at heart, but it feels far more like a banquet. The staff are friendly, attentive and clearly as excited about the new menu as we all are! They recommend wines for our chosen dishes which complement them perfectly, before enquiring as to whether we had been invited to a cocktail masterclass yet?
Naturally, we follow through eagerly and are met with a friendly bartender, just waiting to teach us how to mix up some Cosmopolitans. A few shakes later and we have mixed up some fairly delicious drinks if we do say so ourselves!
All that cocktail shaking has worked up an appetite, but thankfully there are plenty of desserts to pick from. We head back to the main bar to peruse the afternoon tea delights and foot-tap along to the solo saxophonist, accompanied by a DJ on bongos. It sounds a bit mad, but it really does work well. Speakeasy vibes, all around!
There are also visitors from Brew Dog, serving up some of their finest pints. So, we grab a bottle of Dead Pony Club and have a walk-around of the whole area.
