The Drugstore Social: A New Kind of Indulgence
Old Dumbarton Road will soon welcome a very new type of establishment to the West End scene – so unique that it will even tempt the Finnieston movers and shakers to brave the ten minute walk for a visit. The Drugstore Social is the 8th venue to be launched by Bar & Restaurant Operator Kained Holdings, and was born from a desire to bring neighbours together over brunch, coffee, drinks and vinyl, but it’s already attracting interest from all over. Glaswegians are looking forward to picking up their prescriptions and indulging in some delicious fare: all thoughtfully created with health and wellbeing at the forefront. It’s set to open its doors at the end of September, with remedies for everything from the blues to that good old FOMO (fear of missing out) that strikes when you haven’t been to a great bar recently.
Soon to arise from the rubble of renovation currently taking place at number 67 is a doctor’s office of green leather that wouldn’t look out of place on Mad Men, tasty food with an emphasis on health and sustainability and mysterious concoctions that attempt to balance the naughtiness of alcohol consumption (in moderation, of course) with at least one medicinal ingredient, renowned superfood or environmentally-friendly foraged garnish.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you did read that correctly! As well as expert chefs, barstaff and DJs, The Drugstore Social have a cohort of expert foragers exploring Glasgow for ingredients including but not limited to blackcurrants and other berries, leaves such as nettle, lemonbalm and sweet cicely, with plenty of cobnuts thrown in for good measure.
It is unlike any other place in Glasgow at the moment, but it is quite simply just what the doctor ordered. It is a health-conscious spot to indulge in everything from an early breakfast to a late night cocktail without the spoonfuls of sugar present in your standard high ball glass: The drugstore will be open for all your needs and whims from 9am to midnight.
As if we needed another reason to celebrate, the opening of The Drugstore Social will also be a warm welcome to a newcomer on the flourishing Glasgow brewing scene. Made exclusively for the Drugstore and the fellow Kained Venues including The Crafty Pig, The Finnieston, Porter & Rye and Lebowskis, Apache is a session pilsner brewed for those who want a craft beer with all the taste and none of the hype. It is a crowdpleaser: light on the hops, easy to drink, and carefully created to be reliably refreshing when the craft beer menu has left you reeling with choice.
Details of the grand opening will soon be announced via Facebook, so hold in there, Glasgow! The doctor is on his way!
