Last month, Vintage Everyday shared beautiful photographs of Glasgow Life in April 1960, and they are so wonderful we couldn’t resist sharing a few with you! For a bit of context, this was the year of the Cheapside Street Fire, the Guardian reported that the electric train system caught fire in December, causing widespread travel delays (no change there then!😂) and 4000 people marched through the city’s streets in protest against the instalment of Polaris nuclear war weapons in the Holy Loch. The photographs were taken by Allan, a UK-based former chemical engineer, now writer and photographer. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! NOTE – the fantastic captions are our own work – if we got any wrong then we are relying on you fellow Glaswegians to correct us, which we are sure you will swiftly and directly 😇.
