Whether you are in student halls, or just renting in Glasgow. It can seem impossible to make a plain boring room your own. This is where this Glasgow Living guide comes in! We have come up with a few ideas to personalise your room or flat without risking losing your deposit…

1. Photos, photos, photos!

Seeing pics of your loved ones will instantly make your room feel ‘homey’ and will help with homesickness. Websites like Polargram.com can print off your photos polaroid-style straight from Instagram. Check with your landlord beforehand what the rules are in regards to putting nails, blu tack etc on the walls, as they may not allow it. If there are any nails already up, tie some twine rope and hang your pics up with mini pegs. Check out these ones at Paperchase.

2. Bright accessories

Go to Primark and Home Bargains and stock up on candles, hanging plaques and fairy lights. These simple items can help you customise your room to suit your personality. Got a horrible carpet or cold wooden flooring? Look around for a cheap rug which will do the trick to hide it.

3. Fun furniture

You’re going to want to make sure you’re looking sharp, so head to IKEA (you can get a bus from Buchanan Bus Station) and check out their free-standing mirrors. They also have clothing rails which are really reasonable. Over the door hooks are a great way to add extra storage, use them for your jackets.

4. Get cosy

Soft furnishings like cushions and fluffy throws will make your room feel cosy and a place you will want to spend time in. Try Matalan (Jamaica Street or London Road) or for gorgeous accessories that don’t cost a fortune. View the range here.

5. Go vintage
